Our Future Together

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

UCH is facing a fiscal crisis. Our reserves are nearly depleted, and we cannot survive another budget deficit.

The congregation's immense generosity in the recent fundraising has enabled us to continue for another year, but this is unlikely to be sustainable.

HOW CAN WE ADDRESS OUR CRISIS?

With an annual deficit of nearly $100,000, drastic steps must be taken. Options include cutting staff and selling buildings.

Following a process of data gathering by the Board, by staff and by the CLT, the congregation will decide how to proceed. The process includes gathering information and developing options for the congregation to consider. The board and others have performed hundreds of hours of research to evaluate options and consider alternatives.

The process will culminate in a congregational vote, scheduled for December.

WHAT AND WHO IS THE CLT?

The Congregational Life Team (CLT) was formed a year ago to assist in keeping the congregation healthy and focused on fulfilling its mission. In response to the recent financial crisis, the Board has asked the CLT to lead the congregation in a conversation about our identity, purpose and values. This process will help the congregation to stay focused on our future together, while making the difficult choices we face. The CLT has organized cottage meetings to help facilitate these conversations.

The team is chaired by Sandy Hamstra. Team members are Andy Back, Chuck Daley, Chris Dutton, Paul Haidet and Barbara Van Horn.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?

There will be many opportunities to learn more in the coming months. Stay informed. Attend a cottage meeting. Talk to the Board. Attend upcoming informational sessions. Consider what this congregation means to you and help to determine how we can continue our life together.
