Reflecting on the impact of the LaGrone scholarship on his life, Leland fondly recalls his mentorship-turned-friendship with accountant Joan Hellmann. “Joan always made herself available when I reached out to her and provided the mentorship I needed to make my career dreams tangible,” he commented in 2024.
When Leland received the 1992 award, he was the first LaGrone Scholar of the revitalized scholarship program.
