Sunday’s service will inform congregants about the plight of people suffering from homelessness. They are from all walks of life, from all educational and ethnic backgrounds, young and old. There are ways we can help. Our guest speaker, Josiah Haken son of two of our members, has been working among sufferers of homelessness in New York City for 12 years. He will inspire and teach us how to offer help, love, and dignity to our “Neighbors With No Doors.”
Stay after the service for a Q&A session with Josiah in the Fuller Chapel beginning at 11:45 am. Copies of his highly rated book Neighbors with No Doors will be available for purchase.
Josiah Haken is CEO with City Relief, a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting those experiencing, or at risk of homelessness to the resources they need to improve their lives. Growing up as the sun of missionaries in Yaounde, Cameroon, as well as leading hundreds of outreaches in the streets of New York City, Newark and Paterson, New Jersey, have given Josiah a unique perspective on the complexities of poverty and homelessness. Josiah is widely recognized as a “go-to person” in New York City when it comes to teaching others how to engage with the unhoused community. Josiah has his Masters of Arts in Ministry, Leadership and Culture through Fresno Pacific University. In 2022, he published his first book, Neighbors with No Doors, the Truth about Homelessness, and How You Can Make a Difference. He believes and teaches anyone who cares to listen that the poor and homeless deserve the best that we can offer and not just our leftovers.
The requirement of masks is based on the current COVID community risk level in Dauphin County. Masks are required for medium or high risk levels; they are optional when the county is in the low risk level. The current level will be posted on the front doors of the church.
